Merrick is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Aviron Investment Management, a newly established special situations fund focused on investments in Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to establishing Aviron, Merrick led the Australian office of Anchorage Capital Group LLC, a New York headquartered special situations investor.  Merrick was responsible for establishing Anchorage's Australian office in 2011 and over the past 10+ years has led investments in turning around many major Australian and New Zealand stressed and distressed companies.  He has an outstanding performance track record across more than 18 investments in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, mining services, resources, waste management and business services.

In his earlier career Merrick worked a Goldman Sachs JBWere as partner in the Principal Investment Area in Australia.  Prior to that time he spent 9 years at Merrill Lynch in Hong Kong and London.  Merrick started his career in finance at Macquarie Group in Sydney, ultimately moving to Singapore to establish Macquarie’s project and structured finance operations in Asia.

Merrick is a former member of the Australian Rowing Team having represented Australia at World Championships, World Cups and Commonwealth Games.  He was a board member of Rowing Australia from 2013 – 2022 including as most of this time as chair of the Audit & Risk Committee.  Merrick is currently a board member of the Heart Research Institute and Athletics Australia and on its Audit, Risk and Finance Committee.
